Your spine gives your body support and structure, it gives you flexibility and allows you to move around freely. It also protects your spinal cord. As we age, our bones become fragile and start to disintegrate. Our spine plays a major role in our movement and flexibility. It is imperative that you take care of it.
- Your spine needs resting too! After a hard day of work, your spine needs to be able to refresh and rejuvenate. Try using a firm or a medium-firm mattress and let your spine get the sleep it deserves.
- Try and keep your spine naturally aligned while sleeping. If you sleep on your back, place a pillow beneath your knees. It reduces the stress on your lower back. If you sleep on your side, place a pillow between your knees to keep your hips balanced. Experiment and try different ways that feel the most comfortable.
- Exercise your core muscles. Most of us don’t use our core muscles enough. They, however, need to be toned and strengthened. There are specific exercises that target these areas. Strengthening your core will help reduce your back pain.
- With work from home, or even while working in an office, many of us tend to sit in for a long time. It is thus important to practice good ergonomics. Get a good, comfortable office chair. Stop slouching and leaning forward.
