How do you know if you have Hernia? What are the different types of Hernia?

Do you fear lifting heavy weight thinking that you might pop a Hernia out of nowhere?
Well, Hernia isn’t something that pops up.

SO, what is a Hernia?

A Hernia occurs when an internal organ pushes through the weak or soft muscle tissue of your body. It is most likely to occur in your chest and abdomen cavity. It is operable and can be taken care of through surgery.

The symptoms of Hernia differ in men and women. There isn’t just one type of it.

What are the different types of Hernia?

  • Inguinal Hernia:
    In an Inguinal hernia, a part of an intestine or the fatty tissues pushes through the groin area at the top of the inner thigh. This type of Hernia is more likely to affect men than women.
  • Femoral Hernia:
    A fatty tissue that pokes through the femoral canal is known as Femoral Hernia. It occurs at the top of your inner thigh or groin area. It sometimes occurs at minute stress on our body like when coughing. It forms a lump-like shape.
  • Umbilical Hernia:
    It consists of a fatty tissue pushing through the cavity of the abdomen that is near the navel button. Umbilical hernia is most common in infants but it can affect adults as well.
  • Hiatus Hernia:
    In Hiatus Hernia, a part of the stomach is pushed into the chest cavity through an opening of the diaphragm. It is very common for people above 50.

How do you tell if you have Hernia aka what are the symptoms?

  • A painful bulge that doesn’t go away.
  • Intolerable pain.
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Difficulty having a bowel passage.
  • Bloating
  • Racing heart rate
  • Fever

Few Facts about Hernia:

Of all hernias that occur:
75 to 80% are inguinal or femoral.
2% are incisional or ventral.
3 to 10% are umbilical, affecting 10 to 20% of new borns; most close by themselves by 5 years of age.
1 to 3% are other types.
